ABOUT

ABOUT

The Child Neurology Section of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center was first established in 1986. The founder, Dr Lillian V. Lee, an adult and pediatric neurologist initially trained 4 pediatricians who are now the most sought speakers locally and internationally. The training program has produced 69 board certified Child Neurologist spread all over the country.

The Child Neurology training is a 3 year program. Trainees in the program have mastery not only in Child Neurology but also in the different neurodiagnostic test such as Electroencephalogram, Neurosonology/Neurovascular sonology, Electromyography and Nerve Conduction velocity. Our very own founder Dr Lee, a Movement disorder specialist has established an Out Patient Clinic for children , theonly one in the country. In-house training in Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics, Child Psychiatry and Neurosurgery are included in the training. The section is working in close collaboration with institutions specializing in Adult neurology, Neuroradiology (CT scan, MRI, Angiography) under the tutelage of prestigious subspecialists in their respective fields.

An eighteen (18) month subspecialty training program in Epilepsy and Neurosonology/Neurovascular sonology is being offered for board certified Child Neurologist. In line with this, soon a Movement training program will be started by the section.

As a way to reach out to patients, the first Epilepsy Camp was started in March 28,1993. The primary objective of which was to teach patients, parents , healthcare workers and educators regarding Epilepsy. The culminating event for each Epilepsy camp is the “Camp Palabas”. Children with epilepsy are engaged to perform after having their share of different skilled activities under the guidance of the teaching staff of the Center for Developmental Intervention Foundation Incorporated (CDIFI). Our very own epilepsy camp has reached the national level. In cooperation with the Philippine League Against Epilepsy the program has service the entire Archipelago. To date there are 38 Epilepsy camp catered for the Filipino children. In addition, a bimonthly Lay forum is given to our patients done at the OPD.

We have also successful launched The Comprehensive Epilepsy Transition Clinic last April 24, 2021. The aim of the program is to successfully transition to adolescent to adult care with collaboration with hospitals with Adult Neurology training. Modules to educate the teens are being held every other month.

In adaptation to the pandemic we still cater to our patients via teleconsultation.
