 Rehabilatation |
The Division continues to be the leading provider of rehabilitation services to the pediatric population.
The past three years (2006-2008) were a period of progress for the Rehabilitation Medicine Division in terms of innovations in therapeutic strategies, breakthroughs in patient care, and other accomplishments.
In the past, Dysphagia Management was a procedure provided to patients with oral and swallowing problems by Speech Pathologists. With the absence of Speech Pathologists in the division, Occupational Therapists became increasingly involved with Dysphagia Management but were limited to decreasing drooling and facilitating suck among infants and chewing among older children. In 2006, after two occupational therapists earned their certifications in Dysphagia Management from UP-Manila, the procedure was once again made available to patients needing oral, feeding and swallowing management. It is now regarded as a subspecialty of the Occupational Therapy Section. |
